Music Sharing & Copyright Policy
We love hearing your music. These two short policies keep our community fair to songwriters, artists and rights holders, and make it clear who's responsible for what.
1. Sharing music in the Community
This applies whenever you share music in the Community for peer feedback or coursework.
- Links only. Music, including covers made for coursework, can only be shared as an external link (for example Dropbox, Boombox, Google Drive, SoundCloud or similar). Audio and video files can't be uploaded to the Music Making Mindset site.
- You're responsible for what you share. The person sharing the link is solely responsible for holding all the rights and permissions needed for the music they share. That includes permission from songwriters, publishers, record labels, co-writers and performers, and for any samples used. If your music is signed to a publisher or record label, you need their express written permission before you share it, including via Dropbox or any other link. Getting that permission is entirely your responsibility, not Music Making Mindset's.
- We don't host your music. Music Making Mindset does not host, store or distribute shared music and accepts no responsibility for content shared through external links.
- Only share what you have permission to share. Please don't share music you don't have permission to share. Music Making Mindset may remove any link at any time.
Before you post, you'll be asked to tick: “I confirm I hold all rights and permissions for the music I'm sharing, and I understand I'm responsible for it.”
2. Submitting a song for video feedback from Brendan Anthony
- Original music only. No covers, no samples or recordings you don't own, and no music written in whole or in part by anyone who hasn't agreed to this submission.
- Links only. Submit your song as an external link (Dropbox, Boombox or similar).
By submitting, you confirm that:
- You wrote the song, or every co-writer has agreed to this submission.
- You own the recording, or every performer and rights holder has agreed.
- The song is not controlled by a publisher or record label who hasn't agreed, and you'll tell us if you're signed to one.
- If the song is signed to a publisher or record label, you have their express written permission to share it via an external link and to have it used in a feedback video.
Permission to use your song. By submitting, you give Music Making Mindset and Brendan Anthony a free, non-exclusive, ongoing licence to play your song, in whole or in part, in a feedback video, and to publish that video on the Music Making Mindset website, its social media channels and its podcast.
You keep full ownership of your song.
APRA AMCOS. Please tell us if you're an APRA AMCOS member, so performances of your song can be reported correctly.
Signed to a publisher or label? You can only share or submit your song once you have express written permission from your publisher and your record label. Getting and keeping that permission is entirely your responsibility. Music Making Mindset has no part in it and accepts no responsibility for it. When you submit, you'll be asked to confirm you have that permission.
Our call. Music Making Mindset may decline any submission, and may remove a feedback video at any time.
When you submit, we'll ask for your song title, the names of all songwriters, whether you're an APRA AMCOS member, whether the song is signed to a publisher or record label, and the link to your song. You'll also be asked to tick: “I confirm this is my original music, I hold all rights to it, and I agree to it being used in a feedback video published by Music Making Mindset.”
